Prismacolor Drawing, Pen & Ink Supply Lists

Drawing Students may choose Prismacolors, Pencils, or Pen & Ink (or a combination of all three):

PRISMACOLOR PENCILS:

  • Sanford Prismacolor Pencils: 24 set or 48 set or larger. Carefully sharpen the UNMARKED end, leaving the pencil’s identifying name and number intact. Sharpen to a flathead and not to a point. These pencils are so soft, that sharpening to a point will cause them to break.
  • Kneaded eraser
  • White Mars eraser
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape
  • X-acto knife: #16 blade (optional)
  • 18” Metal Ruler (optional)         
  • Sanford Uniball Pen Micro: black (Wal-Mart or Office Depot)                   
  • Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating #1303 (not needed until art is finished)               
  • Bag or box for supplies
  • Computer paper or drawing paper to sketch ideas: a few sheets
  • Hand held pencil sharpener (Artists’ quality—about $2)
  • #300 Crescent Illustration Board, cold-pressed: cut into an 8” x 10” or 11” x 15” pieces, saving and bringing to class small scraps. You may want to wait and cut the rest of the board into larger pieces for later projects if you purchased a 30” x 40” piece. 
    1. Cutting the board: Have the store make one 15” x 40” cut. Then cut one of the panels 11” from the top. Using a steel ruler, you can cut more pieces with a #11 x-acto knife or box cutter on top of a bread board. 
    2. Another way to cut the board is to have the store make two 10” x 40” cuts. This will leave you with three 10” x 40” panels. Measure 8” from the top of the 10”x40” panel and cut with the x-acto knife and a steel ruler for 8” x 10” boards. Zieglers on Admiral and Lewis carries the large size board. Michaels has smaller board. Hobby Lobby no longer carries this board. 
    3. Teacher will have 8x10” boards available for purchase: $1.50 each board.

Teacher will have project ideas for the first project; however, feel free to bring to class photos, greeting cards, magazine pictures or calendars.

*PEN & INK:  Micron pen—black 02, or 03, 2h pencil, Mars white eraser, pad of Strathmore Bristol paper smooth or the above mentioned Crescent Illustration Board. 

PENCILS: 2h, HB, 6b (woodless), 3b 8b (woodless) pencils, kneaded eraser, Mars white eraser, pad of Strathmore Bristol paper vellum, or the above mentioned Crescent Illustration Board.
